I mean, sure, “modern” in this case is 1990 but it’s a Wrangler I’m mainly interested in learning more about.

Tidbit: An ignition coil has a winding of coated wire wrapped around a metallic core, when voltage flows through the windings it creates a magnetic field. There is a second set of windings(and the difference between winding 1 and winding 2 sets up the turns ratio and overall voltage increase). When the voltage is removed from the first coil the magnetic field collapses, through mutual induction this creates an increased voltage in the second core which also collapses and sends a significantly increased voltage out. This is how 12v is stepped up to 40,000v for a spark plug. Outside of automobiles this is known as a step up transformer.

Haldermans engine performance books are solid for learning everything. There are more expensive books that can go into much more excruciating detail.(example:logic gates, CAN bus, occiliscope readouts)

40k volts sounds...fatal

Not many amps though. It can be lower around 15k, 40k would be wot and it all depends on the motor. Higher compression will make getting a spark across the plug gap more difficult

That’s a white pearl 300ZX non-turbo. I once had one in the same spec - though I think that’s a 2 seater.

Just beautiful.

My default definition of “modern” tends to be a simple matter of drawing a line between fuel injection and carbs . At some point, I’m probably going to start drawing the line at OBDII instead . Not sure if I’m ready for that yet.
